AMCFU provides ongoing support to medical and social structures, as well as to the residents of Kharkiv and its region, in the form of medications, medical equipment, supplies, and sanitary and urban transport vehicles. This region has been the site of intense fighting, occupation, and war crimes, leading to catastrophic consequences for the civilian population, infrastructure, and housing.
The bombings have never ceased, and violent fighting has resumed in certain parts of the region. A memorandum of humanitarian cooperation was signed between the Kharkiv Regional Council and AMCFU. Cooperation with the City Council is also close, allowing for the establishment of effective aid projects for this region. Due to its complex needs and the large volume of donations sent, Kharkiv is the focus of regular AMCFU missions.
During our last mission in this region, we visited liberated localities, including Izium, Balakliia, and Chuhuiv, where we were able to speak with local administrations, medical staff, and residents about the consequences of the occupation, its impact on the population and infrastructure, and the necessary aid. In Kharkiv, we also visited facilities damaged by bombings, such as the regional trauma hospital (hit four times), the pediatric hospital, a school for visually impaired children, and the National University of Urban Economy, damaged by a Russian missile last February.
Our ongoing projects for this region include:
– Medical equipment and medications: Significant need, with a focus on cancer treatments.
– Electricity: Provision of industrial generators to hospitals, orphanages, and elderly care homes (EHPADs) to ensure a constant power supply (16 beneficiary institutions).
– Drinking water: Construction of water towers for three villages to replace those destroyed by fighting, and installation of water filtration systems.
– Education: Sending school supplies.
– Reconstruction: Cooperation with a French civil engineering group will enable the reuse of several hundred radiators during the reconstruction of the National University of Urban Economy and its student dormitory.
