On October 14, 2022, a humanitarian convoy from the Association Aide Médicale et Caritative France-Ukraine departed for Ukraine, delivering medical equipment to Zaporizhzhia.
Since the beginning of the Russian offensive against Ukraine on February 24, tens of thousands of Ukrainians, the vast majority of them civilians, have died under Russian military fire. In addition to these human losses, there have been numerous reports of sexual violence in areas previously occupied by the Russian army, which international organizations like Human Rights Watch continue to document.
These sexual assaults require urgent medical care for the victims, including treatment for gynecological injuries and prevention of unwanted pregnancies. To facilitate the treatment of these patients in Zaporizhzhia, a city in eastern Ukraine that has become a refuge for tens of thousands of people evacuated from Mariupol, Kherson, and other neighboring occupied cities, the Ile-de-France Region granted a subsidy of 100,000 euros to fund the purchase of advanced medical equipment for two gynecological/maternity hospitals, No. 3 and No. 4.
Each of the two hospitals received an ultrasound machine, a patient monitor, a neonatal resuscitation system, and LigaSure electrosurgical instruments, all provided by suppliers based in France.
We thank the Ile-de-France Region and are deeply grateful to all its elected representatives for unanimously approving this project, which will allow Ukrainian victims to receive vital medical care.
