The war has severely disrupted the funeral sector in combat zones and areas heavily affected by migration. The increase in deaths, families separated by the war, and the exodus of the population have put pressure on municipal funeral services, with frequent interventions in the absence of care for the deceased by their families.
The Municipal Funeral Home of Druzhkivka, Donetsk region, requested assistance from AMCFU for funeral vehicles. Hit by several missile bombardments, the industrial city of Druzhkivka has seen the destruction of several educational, medical, and residential facilities. Despite these challenges, many people have remained in or returned to Druzhkivka, while others have moved there from occupied areas. Estimating the current population, which numbered nearly 60,000 before the war, remains difficult.
The history of this city is marked by the presence of the “French Cemetery” and the street named Paryzka Komuna (The Paris Commune) leading to this cemetery. It dates back to 1891, when the French contributed to the development of the region by creating the Donets Ironworks and Steelworks Company. French industrialists left a lasting mark on Druzhkivka, with industrial facilities, a hospital, housing for employees, and even a church at the time.
During the First World War, due to the impossibility of repatriating the deceased, several dozen French people were buried in Druzhkivka.
Thanks to the donation of the VYV Group Funeral Home, we were able to offer Druzhkivka 2 funeral vehicles to support them in this period of crisis caused by the war.
We express our gratitude to our donors, including the municipalities of Le Havre, Melun and Laon, the ambulance companies of the Solidarité Ambulancière FranceUkraine (SAFU) initiative, and other companies that have spontaneously contributed to our mission.
In 2023, AMCFU transferred 44 vehicles to Ukraine, including 34 ambulances, 2 TPMR vehicles, 2 city buses, 3 funeral vehicles and 3 utility vans. The war continues, the needs remain considerable, and we are counting on your support to help Ukraine!
