Spring 2024 Activities
Spring 2024 was marked by a worsening of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
The destruction of critical infrastructure and the advance of Russian troops in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions have severely affected the country. Most power plants have been targeted, leaving millions of people without electricity, heat, and water supplies. From late February to mid-May, 388 Russian strikes destroyed 131 energy infrastructures and transmission systems, almost completely destroying the thermal energy production system in Ukraine.
Healthcare facilities and emergency workers are regularly targeted. The “double-strike” tactic is often used: it involves bombing a civilian structure and then sending a second missile after the emergency workers arrive. Ambulances are also targeted by drone attacks.
In Kharkiv, with the new Russian offensive launched on May 10, 2024, the situation continues to deteriorate. More than 14,000 people have been displaced in a few days, and nearly 189,000 others still live less than 25 km from the border with Russia, exposed to significant risks due to the ongoing fighting. Violent fighting is also taking place in the Donetsk region.
In this difficult context, AMCFU remains mobilized to provide humanitarian assistance, responding to urgent needs on the ground.
